Abstract

Chinatown settlement in Tangerang until today is still hold the potential of cultural heritage that needs to be explored, defined and assessed prior to the extinction of its cultural significance. Chinatown settlement as one of the forming of local identity and urban settlements in Indonesia is actually a part of the history of the formation of cities and settlements in various regions in Indonesia. Understanding of the meaning of cultural significance is very important. The more we understand the meaning of the values of what is contained within the cultural significance, the more we sensitive to the surrounding environment where it can be possible for a building or place that actually deserves to be preserved. The ongoing research within the multi-year, this paper is part of the results of previous studies related to the settlement Chinatown in Tangerang. The method used in this research is preservation method based on the Burra Charter, which is descriptive analytical digging or explore the cultural significance then establish cultural significance value that can be prepared for the next steps to form a model of preservation.
