Abstract

UrbanHeatIsland(UHI)isrelatedtotheincreaseofurbancomparedtoruraltemperatureastheresultofglobalphenomenon.Theincreaseoftemperatureispredictedtobeintensifiedalongwiththeextendofurbanactivityinthenearfuture.Therefore,thediscussiononUHIbecomessignificance.ThispaperdiscussestheresultofliteraturestudiesonthermalcharacteristicsofmaterialsthatpotentiallyusedtoreduceUrbanHeatIsland,especiallyinutilizingpavementandroofcover.TheresultofthestudyconcludesthatthereductionofUHIisdeterminedby:1)thehigh-levelalbedo(theratiobetweenthereflectedheatandtheabsorbedheat)ofmaterialthatisinfluencedbythecolorandtextureofitssurface;2)Thehighlevelthermalemittanceofmaterial;3)Thelowercapacityofmaterialtostoretheheat.4)Thecapabilitythermalconductivityofmaterialsurface.RecommendedpavementstoreduceUHIarecoolpavement,reflectivepavement,porouspavers,permeablepavers,perviouspavement,waterretainingpavement.RoofcovermaterialsthatreduceUrbanHeatIslandareCoolRoofandGreenRoof.ThedesignandtoughnessofmaterialsshouldbeconsideredtoreduceUHI.
