Abstract

ABSTRAK Ikon suatu daerah mempunyai suatu keunikan tersendiri, biasanya mewakili keunikan atau kekhasan yang mudah dingat. Seperti ondel-ondel yang menjadi ikon kota Jakarta. Ondel-ondel merupakan artefak budaya bagi masyarakat Jakarta yang dipercaya sebagai pelindung dari leluhur yang hingga kini terus terpilihara secara turun temurun. Ondel-ondel dipercaya sebagai penolak bala, biasanya diletakkan di bagian depan suatu bangunan atau menjadi babak awal di awal pertunjukan seni betawi. Ondel-ondel biasanya terdiri dari 2 (dua) buah boneka besar berpasangan, laki-laki dan perempuan yang memakai pakaian Betawi. Kenapa ondel-ondel? Karena secara tidak langsung menjadi perlambang kehidupan orang Betawi yang terbuka menerima peradaban secara internal maupun eksternal yang mempengaruhi kehidupan. Kata kunci: ondel-ondel, Betawi ABSTRACT Each province in Indonesia have its own unique icon implemented in its culture. Usually the unique characteristics of the icon is widely famous and recognizeable by people of other provinces in Indonesia. Ondel-Ondel, are iconic art itemsfor DKI Jakarta province. Ondel-ondel are cultural artifac for DKI Jakarta citizens and believed as an protector given by the ancestor of Batavia’s people passed down from generation to generation. Ondel-ondel is believed to be a charm to prevent badluck. Usually ondel-ondel is located in front of building’s main entrances and used as an opening show in some Batavia art and culture festivals or theaters. Ondel-ondel usually presented as two giant sized dolls which symbolized Batavia men and batvia women wearing Batavia uniforms. So, why these ondel-ondel became the iconic cultural items for Batavia people? It is because Batavia people gain their culture and traditions from many internal and external factors which affected their way of living. Keywords: ondel-ondel, Betawi
